1 (4 pound) prime rib roast
¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon herbes de Provence
kosher salt to taste
Directions
- Place the prime rib roast on a dish and let it sit for 2 to 4 hours to reach room temperature.
- Set the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit (260 degrees C).
- In a bowl, stir together the butter, pepper, and herbes de Provence. Over the entire roast, evenly spread the butter mixture. Use kosher salt liberally to season the roast.
- The preheated oven was used to roast the 4-pound beef for 20 minutes. (For information on calculating cooking time if your roast weighs more or less than 4 pounds, see the footnote.)
- The roast should be left in the oven for two hours with the door closed after turning the oven off.
- Roast should be taken out of the oven, cut, and served.
